Book excerpt:
After being in my first body cast for six months, my cast was removed. The doctors “sawed” it off. They asked me if I wanted it. “Do you want to keep it and take it home with you?” I was asked.
“Why?!” I incredulously asked. I thought they were kidding.
“Some people like to keep them and remind themselves of what they’ve been through,” was the reply I heard.
“Are you serious?! What am I going to do with it? Hang it on the wall? Ah..thanks, but no thanks,” I answered. I just envisioned the body cast hanging on the wall. That would have made a unique wall hanging, to be sure.
With that, my body cast was discarded. Ah…fresh air.
