Still Another TKR Flexibility Exercise

There are a variety of exercises one can do to increase their bionic knee’s flexibility, here is another one that was passed along to me by one of my readers. Here PT person had her doing this as part of the exercise regime.

Don’t be discouraged if you either have a difficult time doing it, or simply are unable to do it. I have an extremely difficult time doing it and I am 5 days short of my one year post tkr date. :(

Here it is (good luck!):

Kneel on the floor
Get up holding onto something

As you progress from that:

Knee on the floor
Get up from the floor using only your legs and hands (that’s right…ah huh….:?)

Be sure to ice afterwards.

NOTE: Please remember that I am only passing along exercises and advice that have worked for me or my readers during our/my tkr recuperation process. I am not a medical professional and will assume no responsibility for the performance or outcome of any of the exercises or advice I post on my blog. Every total knee replacement patient is different.

  1. lol……I got as far as “kneel on the floor”…..and stopped reading!!!!

If someone put a gun to my head and said “kneel on the floor”….they’d just have to shoot me!

I managed to work 5 days this past week and today my leg is very swollen down the front of my shin, so as soon as we get lunch behind us, I am propping up with all sizes of ice packs….and taking a nap!

I’m working M/W/F/Sat next week and hoping to be back to my normal 40 hour schedule the following week……”hoping” being the operative word there. I have had to take a pain pill every day that I worked this past week, usually in the middle of my shift. But, I’m hanging in!

  2. oh my, you lost me too after the kneel on the floor part. i have not even felt my floor for years and i don’t want to start now. haha. my goal each day is to stay upright and not meet with the floor. but i hope that one day in the future with my new knee that i can get on the floor again and play with my dogs and do yoga and sit ups and all that good stuff. take care.

  3. Oh my gosh! I’m laughing so hard I can hardly breathe!Debi’s “just shoot her” is so right. And I know exactly what Sharon means- no telling what’s under my bed! I’m 7 months out from bilaterals and just now getting some balance back to where I can walk around the house without a cane. Still use it out and about. I’m hoping by my one year mark I’ll be walking fairly normal. I love reading your suggestions and how you’re doing.

  4. Debi, Sharon & Janice…your comments have me laughing so hard I’m was crying. I needed that! :) Thanks…
