Alex Ovechkin 50th Goal Scenario

Alex Ovechkin scored his 50th goal a few days ago and today is the first day I actually saw the clip of which I had heard so much about. I heard others on NHL Live! and various NHL Center Ice broadcasts mention that he had performed a show after scoring that goal. There were mixed opinions about the incident.

After seeing the clip today, I am of the mindset that is was uncalled for. It was a premeditated move and came across as him knowing he was going to be the center of attention and he was milking it for all he could. Very much “look at me and how funny I am”. Bah hum bug, I say.

Normally, I love seeing Ovechkin after he scores a goal since he is so enthusiastic and natural about the whole thing. It is refreshing to see. However, this whole show regarding his 50th goal was just going too far.

It reminded me of those stupid football games with those ludicrous dances done by the player after scoring a touchdown. How ridiculous and attention getting can you get? They take away from any beauty the sport may have.

I didn’t catch what Don “Grapes” Cherry said about it. I can only imagine. :?

  1. Don Cherry pointed out that Alex needs some class. In fact, we covered this same question on my blogtalkradio show with our guest bloggers this past Sunday. http://www.chicshockey.com
