Swollen Knee

I was told after my total knee replacement surgery that my knee would be swollen for about 3-4 months.  So, it is swollen, but less than others I have seen.  It’s not a pretty picture, but who cares? That’s part of the deal, so I’m not complaining.

I actually like showing people my scar since it’s a trophy of sorts. 🙂  Just add it to the collection, I say.

Today is an eye opener.  I walked for about two hours today at the zoo.  (What a great time!)  Now that I am home, my knee is swollen in areas it didn’t use to be.  Oh well, that’s what ice bags are for.

I’ve been told that my surgery knee will look like my healthy knee in time.  That will be interesting to see how it works its way out to that point. Right now, I can’t imagine that.   Time will tell.

  1. I am inspired by your story. April 25th I had my knee replaced as well. I have been working very diligently to regain ROM which I am at a 115. The strenghening is killing me, but I push through it. I have set my return to work goal for May 26th. I am still on the walke but should graduate to the cane Thursday.

I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to do therapy and home exercises without the pain meds. When did you find the pain of therapy bearable without the meds?

  2. Your email address is invalid and my reply was returned.

Congrats on your ROM. It took me about two months after surgery to have therapy without pain meds. And, it’s still painful, just at a lesser degree.
    Good luck!

  3. thanks for the response. I made it back to work by my goal date and was released to full duty without restrictions Agust 8th. But as my luck would have it, I fell down stairs August 10th and my ACl became unattached. my nickname is grace. because I have never been very graceful ; ) we are anticipating it to heal on it’s own, we shall see. but prior to that I ROM was at a 127 and I was walking 2 miles a day. now we shall see.
