Why Does Knee Hurt after Total Knee Replacement?

I recently had someone ask me this question.  Here is what is happening to me….5 months after my total knee replacement, I experience pain and stiffness in my knee area.  It is not in the knee joint itself, however.  My pain is centered in the surrounding tissues and muscles which emcompass the entire knee area.

My pain is most noticeable during descending stairs (going down stairs), and during my flexibility/stretching exercises.  Flexibility exercises include the rowing machine, stairs, knee bends or squats, and others. Some of the other exercises include the simple ones like laying down and sliding my leg toward my butt (that’s an exercise given immediately after a total knee replacement is done).

My flexibility is still being worked on with various exercises, and it is improving.  My knee is still swollen, also.  However, that doesn’t stop me from showing off my scar as if it is a trophy (which it is, in my books..: ))

Hope this helps…:)
