Effects of Weather on a Total Knee Replacement

Recently, I was asked if I can determine the weather with my bionic knee. Or, more appropriately, “How does weather effect your total knee replacement?” It was a pretty funny question, in my opinion. It was entertaining to me mainly because it brought back memories of how weather impacted my real knee.

First of all, I have not had weather impact my bionic knee. However, I have heard of people who have experienced this event. Someone I know has a total hip replacement, and he was telling me about how when it gets cold…his hip area really feels it. It seems that the bionic hip gets cold. That’s his opinion, though. I don’t know if anyone else has experienced that.

My real knee, however, really experienced the weather changes. In fact, I used my knee as a weather vane. Cold, damp weather caused pain and stiffness. Warm, humid weather caused my knee to be fluid and painless.

So, there is another benefit of having a total knee replacement. No weather predictions are involved. 🙂

Note: Maybe I am speaking to soon since it’s been almost nine months since my tkr. My luck, I’ll be sharing this information and tomorrow …the bionic knee weather vane will kick in.
