To Twitter Or Not To Twitter…That Is The Question…

I have been approached by someone to start “Twittering”. Apparently, this is the new and fun way to become involved in social networking via the Internet. Please pardon my ignorance, but I don’t understand.

With all the ways to invade one’s privacy nowadays, especially via online communications, isn’t this just another way for Big Brother to watch one’s every move? (That is, if one wants to update the site on a regular basis).

I have heard of people involved in the Twitter community as having received book deal offers, real life networking opportunities, and other positive effects involving advancing one’s career. However, I need to wonder…..should I listen to my intuition telling me “no, you’re uncomfortable, this is strange”…or start Twittering in the hopes of advancing my career?

What do you think? Is Twittering a good idea? Why or why not? Any feedback is appreciated. I’d like to hear about others’ experiences with this social networking craze. I’m confused….

  1. Twitter is one more way to connect with people. It also is one more way to eat up your time. I like it, although I do limit my time on there.

  2. I find your thoughts on this interesting, primarily because I’ve had the same thoughts. I have a Twitter account which I rarely use (with intentions of using more often because I’ve heard about how “fun” it can be). But I honestly do not see the point of twitter. First of all, they don’t have a very viable economic model. Second off, I can update my status and “microblog” through my facebook status (granted of course, only those connected to me can see it). And third, I really just don’t see the point of creating instant mini updates throughout my day. I’m sure I’m probably one of very few that feels this way.
