There are multiple ways to help those affected by the Haiti earthquake. As I previously mentioned, you can call Unicef. There are a variety of other organizations accepting financial donations, also.
After receiving an email about UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief), I wanted to share this information. The charity organization is valid and was mentioned on the Larry King Haiti Fundraising Show last night. If you do not want to ship the supplies, check with your local church to see if they offer a distribution site.
Here is a link to their website stating the supplies they are seeking:
If you want to make a donation of needed health supplies, here is the list. These items are to be placed inside a sealed one-gallon plastic bag.
1 hand towel (15″ x 25″ up to 17″ x 27″, No kitchen towels)
1 comb (large and sturdy, not pocket-sized)
1 nail file or fingernail clippers (no emery boards or toenail clippers)
1 bath-size bar of soap (3 oz. and up)
1 toothbrush (single brushes only in original wrapper, No child-size brushes)
6 adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages
$1.00 to purchase toothpaste
(NOTE: UMCOR Sager Brown is now purchasing toothpaste in bulk to be added to health kits before shipping to ensure that the product does not expire before they are sent.)
Please visit their website and see how you can help. Your help is needed, irregardless of how much you can give.
