Joint Supplements Feedback

There are so many supplements on the marketplace anymore, it’s hard to know which ones work and which do not. After doing much research, it seems that glucosamine products were the way to go. Glucosamine is tied in with hyaluronic acid and helps keep the joints lubricated.

I started taking a joint supplement four months ago that contained glucosamine, MSM and chrointin (sp?). It seems that since my tkr, my “good” knee is starting to show signs of arthritis. I have written about this previously. My knee is starting to make crunching sounds, swells up a bit after extensive exercise and is painful at times. So, I figured I’d start taking these supplements.

All was fine and dandy until I ran out of the supplements last week. I didn’t give it a second thought since I didn’t think they were having any effect upon my knee joint. Now, I notice a difference. The joint supplements were mainly keeping my pain level down. My knee hurts when getting up from seating, climbing stairs or, sometimes, even when walking. It’s not incessant and continuous pain, it just wasn’t there while taking the supplements. Bums me out. 😕

Oh well, could be much worse. Hope this helps others going through the same thing. Gotta go shop for replacement supplements.

  1. I tried the supplement route and it didn’t work for me but others swear by glucosamine and SAM-e to reduce joint pain. I also came across this article about doing certain things for arthritic joints. This article comes a little late for me as both of my knees have TKRs.

Maybe this article will help you and others.

  2. Thanks for your comment and link, Monique. That’s an interesting and informative article.
Any doctor who doesn’t discuss exercising as a way to help arthritic joints is a waste of time, in my opinion.
Good luck and keep in touch!

  3. I am about to have left Total Knee Replacement. I have actuallty been worried about my right knee, in the long haul. It is by no means as bad as the left. I was wondering how much G&C you take on a daily basis. I know that this stuff works, as I dose my 20 lb. tom cat with it. He gets a 900 mg. pill cut in half, wrapped in cream cheese, 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 at night. Otherwise, he cannot put any pressure on his right front shoulder, poor guy. Last year, I tried it on me, ramping up the dose to about 4000 mg. over a month, to no avail. Mayber after surgery, it will be helpful, so I might start now, to get it into my system.

So, it has been 2 years since your surgery? Have you acheived the ROM you wanted? I’d love to hear!!
